Counter Strike : Global Offensive… It’s Finally Coming.

Valve has just announced the upcoming 2012 release of a new Counter-Strike title for PC and Next Gen consoles, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.   It’s bee n 12 long years since counter strike took the world gaming industry by storm.  Starting off as a simple Half-Life mod, Counter-Strike became one of the most widley recognized FPS titles in the industry and is still widely played 12 years after it’s release.  Here is the offical statement from Valve:

“Next Gen Console, PC, and Mac Release Targeted for Early 2012

Valve, creators of best-selling game franchises (such as Counter-Strike, Half-Life, Left 4 Dead, Portal, and Team Fortress) and leading technologies (such as Steam and Source), today announced Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS: GO).

Targeted for release via Playstation Network, Xbox Live Arcade, and Steam (for PC and Mac) in early 2012, CS: GO will expand upon the team-based action gameplay that it pioneered when it was launched exactly 12 years ago (CS beta 1, August 1999).

CS: GO features new maps, characters, and weapons and delivers updated versions of the classic CS content (de_dust, etc.). In addition, CS: GO will introduce new gameplay modes, matchmaking, leader boards, and more.

“Counter-Strike took the gaming industry by surprise when the unlikely MOD became the most played online PC action game in the world almost immediately after its release in August 1999,” said Doug Lombardi at Valve. “For the past 12 years, it has continued to be one of the most-played games in the world, headline competitive gaming tournaments and selling over 25 million units worldwide across the franchise. CS: GO promises to expand on CS’ award-winning gameplay and deliver it to gamers on the PC as well as the next gen consoles and the Mac.”

CS: GO is being developed by Valve in cooperation with Seattle-based Hidden Path Entertainment. The title is targeted for release in early 2012 and will be playable at this year’s PAX Prime and Eurogamer Expo 2011.”

With the upcoming releases of Battlefiled 3 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 it will be interesting to see what Valve is going to bring to the table with it’s new shooter.  Valve is known for it’s quality games and we should expect nothing less from their upcoming release.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive will NOT be PC exclusive and will be released on multiple platforms.

I agree with Charcoal,I haven’t been imoresed with any DLC stand alone shooters EXCEPT 1943 made my dice it was easily a hit so I know this is counter strike but the bar is very high for this title to succeed aslong as it doesn’t end up like Breach which sounded great in concept but well sucked

I’m sorry to say that it probably won’t live up to it’s pedigree. CS isn’t a dual thumbstick shooter, which they’re trying to make it.

I want screenshots and gameplay footage. If it’s going to be a CS title there is a pedigree to live up to.
