DOOM 3: BFG Edition announced!

On May 30th Bethesda announced that they will be releasing the ID classic: Doom 3 BFG edition this fall for the PC, Xbox 360, and Playstation 3! Doom 3 will be “re-mastered” for today’s Hardware and will also have the addition of “Resurrection of Evil” add-on pack and 7 new levels called “The Lost Missions”.

The re-mastered classic will have greatly enhanced graphics with improved rendering and lighting, 3d support, 5.1 surround sound, Xbox 360 achievements and Playstation 3 trophies, a checkpoint system for smoother progression through the campaign, fine-tuned controls to bring a more intensity to the single-player and multi-player experience on the consoles, and YES there will be an armor mounted flashlight so you don’t have to drop your weapon and pull out your flashlight to check a dark corner just to be killed because you can’t defend yourself!

As if this wasn’t enough the original Doom and Doom 2 will be included so you can re-live blasting those pixelated Demons HELL-bent on consuming your almost 8bit soul!  For more info checkout Bethesda/ID’s Facebook page HERE!  Now peep the release trailer and don’t forget to leave your lights on when playing!

So is this new trend of “re-mastering” classic games from the past and re-releasing them a bad thing? Are you a purest who thinks the developers should leave these classics alone or do you think this is a trend that should continue? Me, I like the idea of making something old new again and give it an update and new material! What do you guys have to say?

P.S. The movie has nothing to do with the game!

I find this underwhelming really. Doom 3 was ok, but I’d have much rather seen a remastered Doom 2. I have always been an id fanboy, at least up until Quake 4, and though I have enjoyed countless other shooters since, Doom 2 still stands supreme. It’s the only game, other than Mario 3, that I go back and beat every year.

Love the idea, PLEASE bring back Unreal in its infancy. Unreal and UT99 remastered would be amazing.
