LucasArts Officially Closed
Kotaku, Game Spot, Game Informer, and pretty much every other media outlet has confirmed that as of today, LucasArts is no more. Disney will still use the LucasArts name to license games, but the development house is no more. Kotaku is reporting from a reliable source that Star Wars 1313 and First Assault have been canceled. The last game LucasArts put out was the abysmal Kinect Star Wars. I agree they haven’t put out a good quality game in a number of years; The Force Unleashed had potential, but bleeding employees and shoehorning in too much new tech made it a mediocre franchise. LucasArts has been around since 1982 have made some great Star Wars titles, lead the way with the adventure genre, and giving people like Tim Schafer and Ron Gilbert and early taste of the limelight. I had a quick chuckle as I hopped over to the LucasArts website and on the front page, low and behold, is Star Wars 1313. Where this will take future Star Wars titles is anyones guess. In 2004 LucasArts went through a massive restructuring under Jim Ward and since, the company has not been the same. Disney wants a new movie as fast as they can produce it, will there be a shovelware title to accompany it, or will Disney redeem the brand?
