MW3 dominates sales records
Its no surprise that MW3 would do well on launch, people were dishing out over 2 grand just to get a copy of the game early. Well the numbers are in and Call of Duty has not only set another record but broken many others. Launch day for MW3 brought in about 390 million and within the first five days brought in 775 million. This broke records throughout the media industry including box office sales (avatar brought in over 760 million), book sales, and it didnt just break its own COD sales records (black ops brought in over 550 million) but is to date the highest grossing game in video game history.
Its competitor Battlefield 3 has done well with it being EA’s fastest selling game in EA history. This of course spans only EA and not every other publisher or game. Within its first week Battlefield 3 brought in about 300 million, 90 million short of MW3’s launch day. While BF3 is a strong competitor its simply doesnt have the following COD does. I would attribute this to MW3 catching the attention of the masses early on and catering to a broader audience as COD has always been available on console, while the BF series started its series with PC roots.
it wasnt until Bad company that a battlefield game came to the console, and lets face it consoles are much much cheaper than a high powered gaming PC, for the non enthusiast upgrading ever 1 to 2 yrs is a hard pill to swallow. And of course there is the key difference between the two that may be the deciding factor for an FPS fan. MW3 offers a simple run n gun experience while BF3 offers more of a full battlefield experience (no pun intended).
Which title is your favorite? do you play on console or PC? If PC do you keep up with hardware trends?
