Sony E3 Press Conference
Sony, a company that suffered its greatest losses ever last year is coming out to show up at E3 and pull out all of the stops. What can they do with the Vita dwelling in a slump at the moment, what are they going to do or say about this? What exclusives are going to be revealed and what about them will shatter the mold and bring Sony back to the forefront of console gaming?
Sony comes out of the box thanking not the game heroes but the gamers themselves. This seems a bit odd and a push for audience as it introduces us.
David Cage is brought on stage to introduce a new title as one of the headliners from 2010’s Heavy Rain. He introduced a concept called Beyond. He explains it a bit such as it were about death and ghost. The protagonist is who we find ourselves following. Jodie Holmes is going to be acted by Ellen Page. We are told we are going to live the life through her eyes, finding exactly what it is in the world beyond. Jodie in the video seems to be followed by a ghost or poltergeist of some time by the name of “Ivan” whom she can somewhat control.
Playstation All Stars: Battle Royale is introduced next and seems to showcase the ability to play the leads in some of Sony’s biggest games to match the head to head in a fighting genre of game. This title will also be available for PS Vita and Cross Compatible. The gameplay seems a lot like the N64 title followed by the Gamecube named Super Smash Brothers. Nothing new or innovative it seems more like a clone of a game from a different company with different characters. With the success of SSB though this may be a smart move albeit a little late on the draw. Two new characters are introduced however, Drake from the Uncharted franchise and Big Daddy from Bioshock.
The next given bone thrown out is about the next generation of Little Big Planet and how Sony is implementing cross platform play for it as well for those who will play on either the PS3 or PS Vita. We are also told that over 200 titles are being added to the PSN. Playstation Plus is pushed yet again offering gamers a multitude of new content for their premium service. 60 titles are boasted for the PS Vita this year as well as the ability to download and play PS Classic games from PSN on it. Youtube is coming to Vita in the form of an app as well as others.
Assassins Creed III: Liberation is announced and showed off for the Vita. You can unlock items in the Vita game by connecting it to the ACIII for PS3. Assassins Creed III was showcased to also feature gameplay of ship vs ship battles on the high seas.
FarCry is the next release that is shown up on the screen showcasing a new 4 player co-op mode throughout the game. This honestly looks amazing though the graphics seem the be a bit fated and not of the freshest quality. The addition of co-op alone makes this a must have however and a AAA title that is FPS being released with it is that much better. There is also going to be a map editor available to create your own multiplayer experience. So does it really look that good? Yes, yes it does. Check out the vid.
The Playstation Move is next up on Sonys’ list handing out a few new tricks including the ability to see a book come to life in the palm of your hand. Wonderbook is exactly what I mean. Augmented Reality makes a book pop up and play on screen using the Playstation Eye. Wonderbook is going to launch with a J.K. Rowline games called Book of Spells which takes you into the world of Hogwarts. Playstation Suite was also given an audience with new information about HTC being their first true partner in the industry to bring the Playstation community to the world. It is also being renamed to Playstation Mobile. All of this as told by Andrew House.
God of War’s new title is given a front stage sneak peak as audiences take a look at the forthcoming title from Sony Santa Monica. God of War Ascension will show us the origins of Kratos as well as include something new to its universe; multiplayer. Short of that, another God of War title is just as it claims, another title to add to the franchise.
From the developers of the franchise Uncharted comes the upcoming release of a post zombie apocalypse named The Last of Us. It plays a lot like Uncharted, with the beautiful world eclipsed by years of nothingness following an apocalypse that wreaks havoc on society. Nature takes back the world in a way but what is left is a shell of society which is being survived by the protagonist and a young girl.
