SOPA, PIPA and the blackout

SOPA and PIPA have made headlines across the internet and have many big named sites and politicians have shown their distaste on the matter. We here at thegamersblog, did not black out any content today, nor will we ever. We do what we do because we love the industry and want to provide original content to everyone that is willing to take the time to read it. Now, this does not represent our take on the matter, we just feel to the people that are new and the returning readers, we have an obligation to them to keep all of our content available at any time. These acts do threaten our site as well as others, it also some threatens developers, but in these times we must show professionalism and respect to the opposition. We may not agree with what these acts would impose but, we need to inform rather than lash out. As gaming journalist we are going to report on these matters and continue to bring all the original content we can throw up. Piracy is an ongoing problem and it does have to be dealt with, but are these acts the answer? That is not for us to decide, but for the readers and viewers with in the gaming and internet community. So go and be heard. Let us know what you think in the comments below and on behalf of the Thegamersblog, I would like to thank everyone for their support over the past few years in creating something special.

With the greatest appreciation,

I can say without a doubt these acts are not the answer. I do believe that action is necessary and there are better ways to handle it (OPEN is on the right track, especially compared to SOPA and PIPA). I can respect this sites position on the blackouts, but I am actually grateful for them. It helped bring these issues to the attention of an audience they may have been completely unaware of them. I believe they also paved the way for recent events. I do not think this is the end of the struggle though and things will reach an even higher climax before we know it.

Have your say
