And the Survivor(Winner) of the Dead Giveaway is!!!!

Congratulations Red_Hood!!! You are the winner of the Dead Giveaway: Left 4 Dead 2 Giveaway!  To claim your prize you need to email me  at thsoundman@thegamersblog.com with where you want your prize to be sent.   We want to thank everyone for playing and can’t say thank you enough for all the help you have given TGB by the contributions you have made via discussions.  We plan to have another giveaway here shortly so don’t leave just because you didn’t win.  We plan on giving away more free games  and maybe even some hardware here in the next few weeks so stay tuned.

Some of you may have wondered how we picked the winner.  I used an application over at random.org that let me plug in all of the contestants names and then the 1st name that showed up on the list was picked.  This elimanted any “human error” from the equation 😀

If anyone has any suggestions on how we can improve our site, giveaways or just wants to chat please send them to staff@thegamersblog.com and we will look at them.  Once again thank you to everyone who participated in the contest.

Banning Punishment = Free Game

This past weekend many Steam users were unfortunately banned from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. What was the cause you ask? Nothing more than a Valve screw up. Valve’s anti-cheat software banned random users for no other reason than an error. In response to the banning errors, President of Valve Gabe Newell, came out and said it was a mistake and apologized. As part of the apology Valve restored the banned accounts and  gave out two free copies of Left 4 Dead 2. One for the user and one to give to a friend. They also sent out an apology mail along with the games which you can read here:

Hello,Recently, your Steam account was erroneously banned from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

This was our mistake, and I apologize for any frustration or angst it may have caused you.

The problem was that Steam would fail a signature check between the disk version of a DLL and a latent memory version. This was caused by a combination of conditions occurring while Steam was updating the disk image of a game. This wasn’t a game-specific mistake. Steam allows us to manage and reverse these erroneous bans (about 12,000 erroneous bans over two weeks).

We have reversed the ban, restoring your access to the game. In addition, we have given you a free copy of Left 4 Dead 2 to give as a gift on Steam, plus a free copy for yourself if you didn’t already own the game.

To share your extra copy of Left 4 Dead 2 with a friend, you can ‘Manage Gifts and Guest Passes’ from the ‘Games’ Menu in Steam, or visit this article on the Steam Support site for detailed instructions: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=4502-TPJL-2656.

To access your own copy of Left 4 Dead 2, visit your library of games in Steam. If you didn’t already own the game, it will now be listed among your others there, and is available for download immediately.

Regards,
Gabe Newell
President, Valve

Left 4 Dead 2 “The Passing” Released Today

Left 4 Dead 2 “The Passing” was released today.  Below are the details about the new addon.

“The first game add-on for Left 4 Dead 2 brings the original Left 4 Dead (L4D1) Survivors down south for a meeting with the L4D2 cast, while delivering new single-player, multiplayer and co-operative gameplay for the PC and Xbox 360.

The Passing also introduces a series of weekly game mode events dubbed “Mutations.” These week-long runs of new gameplay modes range from “Realism Versus” mode to “Chainsaw Massacre,” which gives all players chainsaws with an unlimited supply of gasoline. There are over 20 Mutations planned, each playable on all L4D2 Campaigns. Mutations are exclusively available to owners of “The Passing” DLC.

In addition, “The Passing” offers a new co-operative challenge mode of play, support for infected bot play in Versus, a new “uncommon common” zombie class (the fallen survivor), melee weapon (golf club), and firearm (M-60).”

This addon is of course free for the owners of the PC version of the game.  If you don’t own the PC version it will cost you 560 microsoft points on Xbox Live.  This is a fairly large download.  It is over 1gb so plan a little time to download the addon.

LFD 2 DLC Delayed

Ahhh, who woulda thought that zombie slaying could be so fun, and only with 3 “friends” to help you through the campaign?  Well it turns out it is fun as hell, and replayability is friggin high.  Left 4 Dead 2 kicks ass, but there is something that is very obvious about this release from Valve, maps are very limited, and some new weapons would be nice too (more so with the 1st LFD, but with the 2nd one too).  So Valve will give us the goods, but a bit latter than expected, and of course for the 360 before the PC : (  The DLC titled “The Passing” was supposed to be released by the end of March, but now is being pushed back until sometime this Spring.  Some of the new weapons will be a Golf club, and a M60 for slaying with only the ammo that come with the weapon.  The DLC will run u $7.00 (or 560 Microsoft Points) less than half of what the DLC is going to cost ppl for MW 2.  And it is rumored to bring back the characters from the 1st Left 4 Dead, yea, stop staring at Zoey’s ass.
