The Gamers Blog @ Gamescom

Gamescom is the world’s largest video game event and takes place annually in Cologne, Germany. This year the event runs from August 15th-19th 2012 and with Gamescom hitting a new visitor record in 2011 with 275,000 people in attendance it’s hoped that this year will be just as spectacular. The event covers everything from PC and console right through to mobile gaming and is used by many game developers to showcase their upcoming games or gaming products. For content it certainly rivals E3 and has a long list of confirmed development companies in attendance. This year The Gamers Blog hopes to bring you our take on what’s happening at Gamescom; as long as nothing goes wrong I’ll be there checking out the offerings being served up by some of our favourite developers.

Confirmed Gamescom 2012 Exhibitors include:

  • Activision
  • Bethesda Softworks
  • Bigben Interactive
  • Bigpoint
  • Blizzard
  • Deep Silver/Koch Media
  • Electronic Arts
  • Gameforge
  • Gaya Entertainment
  • Gree
  • LG
  • Konami
  • Nexon
  • NCsoft

  • Red5 Studios
  • Riot Games
  • Roccat
  • Samsung

  • wargaming.net

There have of course been plenty of rumours flying around regarding Valve announcing a new game at the show and the possibility of GTA 5 being showcased, but these have been strongly refuted by Gamescom; but more information on DOTA 2 is widely anticipated. What we do know is that Blizzard will premiere the trailer for the World of Warcraft expansion, Mists of Pandaria, as well as showcasing Diablo III and the new Starcraft II expansion, Heart of the Swarm. It has also been reported that Konami will have playable versions of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, Mirror of Fate and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance; while EA is said to be unveiling new content and services from its franchises including FIFA 13, Medal of Honor: Warfighter, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, Crysis 3 and SimCity, among others. And this is just a taste of the exciting content that Gamescom is ready to serve up.

Not only will there be the big names at Gamescom, this year small and medium-sized companies and developer studios have the opportunity to present their games to the huge gaming community in the ‘Terminal Park’ area at the event, this will give visitors a chance to look around at some of the games coming onto the mobile platform market and try them out.

If you want to keep updated about the happenings at Gamescom you can follow me on Twitter @cat792k and please comment on the blog if you think there is anything that is a ‘not to be missed’. Also remember to check back on the site during and after the event (of course we love you to check the site at all other times too), as always we would love to hear your thoughts and opinions.
