thq Bidding Ends, Generates 7 million
The bidding for the remaining THQ properties which include Red Faction and Darksiders has ended. GamesIndustry International is reporting that over the 17 IP’s that were up for auction it generated an estimated 6 to 7 million dollars. Up for bid was some key franchises such as Darksiders, Red Faction, the MX series, Homeworld, and a wide array of licensed titles. The announcement for who has won the claims to these IP’s will be announced by the end of next month after the courts approve the bids. David Adam’s and Crytek USA were particularly interested in returning Darksiders to its proper home after Vigil Games was closed down during the bankruptcy proceedings. Red Faction: Guerrilla was a great game and showed off some powerful physics tech; then it was laid all to waste by the mediocre, confined Red Faction: Armageddon. Volition was picked up by Deep Silver and is working on the next Saints Row title. It will be interesting to see where Red Faction goes and what is done with the franchise. If it becomes a cruddy, brown, modern day FPS despite, being set on Mars in a Sci-Fi world; I give up. As with the last story, any new information regarding the auction and the unsold assets of THQ, I will update. Lets hope these IP’s land in a good home and are utilized.
