Ubisoft Officially Unveils Assassin’s Creed iv: Black Flag

Up top is the newest assassin, Edward Kenway. Edward is the grandfather of Connor, the protagonist from Assassin’s Creed III. Black Flag will take place during “the dawn of the 18th century” in the West Indies during a time period that is much more entertaining than revolutionary America. Edward’s main weapons of choice are multiple flintlock pistols and dual cutlass’s, as well as the infamous hidden blades. Edward will have a ship, the Jackdaw. As this is an Assassin’s Creed game there will be famous people about, people like Blackbeard, Benjamin Hornigold, Charles Vane, Calico Jack Rackham, and Bartholomew Roberts; but don’t expect Pirates of the Caribbean. The series has always tried to hold it’s own in the history department, and Black Flag will be no different. In the Global Q&A written by Creative Director Jean Guesdon, the game will take 60% on land and 40% on the open seas. The game will release this fall on the Xbox 360, PS3, PS4, WiiU, and PC. More details below as well as some screens from the upcoming game and the brand new trailer.

I find it curious that they went back in time with the numbered series. The games have been, normally, sequential. Starting in Crusades, then to the Renaissance, and on to the American Revolution; Black Flag drops almost 70 years before III. After Black Flag, I want my Victorian London setting. I have been dreaming of a AC taking place there since II. I have been patient. Black Flag does look worlds more interesting than III, I didn’t vote on the Revolutionary setting, and frankly, it’s a boring time in history. Here is hoping Black Flag is what III was promised.
