xbl Update: The Smell of Arcades

This weeks update is fairly lite, though with a zombie theme deal of the week and some decent price drops it saves it from being, well just there. There are some good deals on a few of my favorite arcade games via the Sales & Specials app. Limbo is on there for 480MP, Spelunky is 480MP, and one of my all time favorites N+ is a paltry 320MP. Here is the Deal of the Week listing. Next week Oblivion and Skyrim DLC will be on sale again including the most recent for Skyrim, Dragonborn.

Zombie Driver HD – 400 (50% off)
Zombie Apocalypse – 400 (50% off)
Zombie Apocalypse Never Die Alone – 400 (50% off)
Zombie Apocalypse 2 Pure Pwnage Pack – 200 (50% off)
All Zombies Must Die! – 400 (50% off)
Call of Duty: Black Ops – Zombies Pic Pack  – 80 (50% off)
Call of Duty: Black Ops – Avatar Zombie Hat – 80 (50% off)
Zombie Wranglers 200 (50% off)
Dead Rising 2 Skills Pack Ninja 80 (50% off)

There is a special game that I missed a few weeks ago that I want to point out, Arcadecraft. This indie title is from Firebase Industries, the group that made another indie game I enjoyed Orbitron: Revolution that was a harking back to games like Defender and R-Type. Arcadecraft is a sim game where you are charged with opening up and maintaining an arcade during the arcade boom of the 1980’s. I have only had a little time with the game but I am falling in love with it. It reminds me of Game Dev Story, available on iOS and Android, a simple pick up and play sim game that features our great industry. There are plenty of design choices, ton’s of different arcade cabinets, and more nostalgia than a pair of parachute pants. The game is on the marketplace for a low cost of 240MP, and there is a free trial to be had as well. Screen shots and a reveal video are below. The game is being considered for Steam Greenlight, so go vote and help get this great game on Steam.

I agree, I also miss their burgers. I loved Giggles and it is a shame to see what that mall has become. Giggles didn’t always have the newest cabinets like Pocket Change, but they did have a nice variety of classics. I feel that has made me more appreciative of the arcade scene. Oh, I do miss it so.

The Arcade Games reminds me of playing Pac Man back in the 1980’s in a small dairy bar not far from the house I grew up in. Brings back good memories!
